So, you are thinking of starting your own business? Congratulations, you are actually the person that this country needs! But have you asked yourself why you might have been thinking, thinking, and thinking without taking the bold step of starting your business? My instincts tells me that you might have be suffering from these myths which might have held you hostage.
1. Self-employment is much riskier than being employed
Most people say that being employed is an assurance to job security. But they fail to notice that their employer can wake up one morning and fire them. With self-employment, you have more control over your business and no one can fire you.
2. You need a lot of money to start a Business
Most successful entrepreneurs started with virtually nothing and grew their businesses in to big enterprises. Their honesty and dedication enabled them to borrow some capital, maintain customers and in the long-run build their enterprises. If you have a good business idea, you can approach someone with the money and agree on terms of your engagement. Also, you can start with the little funds you have and grow your business in to a big enterprise with time.
3. Self-employed people have to really work long hours
It is not a lie that self-employed people actually work for longer hours especially when nursing a start-up. Successful business people have a trick. They develop systems within their business that enable the business to run without their presence. Therefore, self-employed people can cut the time spent in running their businesses themselves.
4. Being self-employed is stressful
What is stressful is not being able to make ends meet, whether you are an employee or self-employed. But given the same standards of living, I believe that self-employment is less stressful since you have control over your time and life. You can easily control your stress whenever you have the freedom to say “no”.
5. Self-employed People do everything themselves
Business owners are responsible in making sure that everything is done. However, they have the freedom delegate by hire other people to do other activities in the business.

Self employment is more about willingness and creativity than it is about resources/finances
